It seems to me that this was a foolish decision. $1500 covers the cost of your roundtrip ticket - he could have at least negotiated a little. How much money would it take YOU to switch?

I'd try to negotiate for the $10,000 or $5,000, but if $1,500 is the highest offer, I'd take that. $1,500 for a 10-hour flight - $150 an hour.
