NBA analysts repeatedly continue to say the Pelicans should have one of the better defenses in the NBA. Because of the talent they have now acquired through the draft (Zion Williamson), the Anthony Davis trade, and who was already there before the draft (Jrue Holiday).
They may need to mature a little on offense. But defensively they are loaded.
One big reason analysts are so supportive is the new General Manager David Griffin.

(I don't know basketball, but it seems the Pelicans got more out of the Anthony Davis trade, than the Lakers.)
