The original Idea that was actually shot was to have Hulk and Banner Make up during the battle of Wakanda in Infinity War. They came together and formed Professor Hulk then. So much so they had to rework the CGI for when they went after Thanos in the beginning of Endgame and put Banner back in the Hulk Buster Armor. Instead of it being Professor Hulk.
The problem was having this huge cathartic and upbeat moment in the middle of the battle right before the Snap was too jarring. So they scrapped it. Reworked Banner/Hulkbuster cgi and moved the Professor Hulk transformation off screen during the 5 years. During that 5 years others things changed drastically Ronin probably being the biggest so it fit the story/pace better.
