Yes. They would. But it should be done anyway. Sooner or later it will happen, so why not sooner.

I think people will freak MORE if its a lead character, like Batman himself; as opposed to say Commissioner Gordon; or Lucius Fox (who is a black character in the comics anyway, so...).
