Years ago I read an article in one of the big 3 mechanics magazines (Mechanix Illustrated, Popular Mechanics, Popular Science) about a new type of steering wheel setup. Instead of a single wheel in front of you, there were 2 wheels, one on each side of the driver's seat. They rotated in opposite directions and there was a shaft between your legs going forward to the steering gear box in the suspension. Might have been a Tom McCahill article. He seemed to like it. Obviously, it never caught on.
