agreed. I think most straight people don’t realize how much more difficult it is to find a partner and connection with someone when you only have like 5% of the otherwise normal pool. I mean it’s challenging enough to find someone you click with even when you are straight. The age gap didn’t bother me at all. In Europe the age of consent is usually 15 and this was a very consensual relationship. People often put moral judgements on the older person for choosing a younger one. Admittedly and understandably it can be questionable and even creepy, but in the context of this film's scenario, it wasn't. There was about a 7yr gap between the characters and Elio wasn't at the lower end of the teen spectrum.
I worked with a 17yr old who's gf was in her mid 20's and had a kid from a previous relationship. People understandably did pass a few comments and I didn't really like him and thought he was douchy. He ended up knocking her up, but they did get married. If it was the other way round, societal hypocritical double standards would have been more biased against an older male with a late teen girl or guy.
my husband is 7 years younger than I am, and not once did we feel like our relationship is inappropriate or had anyone comment something negative about it. and we have been together for a long time. its all about the motivation and maturity of both parties.
