I think the problem is they don't want to steal any potential stories in the future. It would be a lot of rather mundane things going on. Obviously there wouldn't be some major event or that would have been in a film surely.
Now that could be hilarious.
On the other hand this announcement should absolve you of your fear of the current storylines. I hope you enjoy the return to convention.
