Sounds like a comedy version of Watchmen. I'm not familiar with the comics but I know it's well liked. I'm not crazy about the other Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg comic adaptation series; Preacher, since I loved the books and find the adaptation lacking. I'll probly give this a shot though, at some point. There's some dark comedy but it's nothing as zany as Preacher. It's kind of the opposite of Watchmen, though. Whereas Watchmen had only one true superhuman and vigilantes have been outlawed, The Boys has a slew of them who are worshipped by society the way celebrities are in the real world. The main team is owned by a corporation who follow them around like reality tv stars as they fight crime and have media events such as races between superhumans. The superhumans are generally shitty people, just as many celebrities are in our world. The plot revolves around a group of guys who want revenge on the superheroes for tragedy that has befallen them due to superhuman activity. It's entertaining without being action packed. It takes itself seriously but knows how to have fun with the concept (unlike the ultra serious Watchmen). At least that's my opinion as someone who enjoys superhero stuff to begin with. Definitely worth a watch if the premise doesn't sound ridiculous to you to begin with. I'd argue that there's a good bit of fun in Watchmen, the original book. The Snyder movie is largely Snyderish bullshit. I'm up for giving it a shot. I didn't completely appreciate what they did with Preacher, as I said. Believe it or not the series is rather tame and quite slow compared to the books which are fucking wild. But I have no previous familiarity with The Boys as a comic series so I'll go in with a clean slate. I watched and enjoyed The Umbrella Academy, which is fucking weird too. So I'm up for weird as long as it's good.
