And the Dark Knight movies weren't even THAT good. It's just that at the time there was little in the way of competition. That, and Heath Ledger's "you-know-what" made critiquing the movies a deeply unpopular thing to do at the time. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises are critically acclaimed movies too and Heath Leger isn't in those. Yes, both have their very vocal haters but the majority considers them good movies and it has nothing to do with competition. To claim that TDK is listed as one of the greatest comic book movie ever made by countless lists because of the death of Heath Ledger is a desparate claim based on a subjective opinion. Let's not forget that Iron Man came out the same year and both are considered great movies in the genre. TDKR has the legacy of Dark Knight to augment it. Begins WAS a good film, though I think Nolan didn't do a good job making the movies about Batman. It was more about the villains than him. And frankly we'll never know how the Dark Knight would've been received if Ledger hadn't died. I found the movie to be less than stellar, though that's not a safe opinion to have.
