Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises are critically acclaimed movies too and Heath Leger isn't in those. Yes, both have their very vocal haters but the majority considers them good movies and it has nothing to do with competition. To claim that TDK is listed as one of the greatest comic book movie ever made by countless lists because of the death of Heath Ledger is a desparate claim based on a subjective opinion. Let's not forget that Iron Man came out the same year and both are considered great movies in the genre. TDKR has the legacy of Dark Knight to augment it. Begins WAS a good film, though I think Nolan didn't do a good job making the movies about Batman. It was more about the villains than him. And frankly we'll never know how the Dark Knight would've been received if Ledger hadn't died. I found the movie to be less than stellar, though that's not a safe opinion to have. Begins is far more about Batman/Bruce Wayne than it is the villains and TDKR is equally about both. TDK is the only one that is argueably more about the villains. I am one of the people who loves TDK and I just think the Ledger thing is a convenient cop out that the detractors can use against the film's acclaim. I mean, what do you use against all the other highly acclaimed movies out there that you think are overrated? Giving the movie a pass because of Legder is one thing, hailing it as a genre masterpiece becasue of Ledger is quite another. All I know is that I love the movie and Ledger's death doesn't play into the reason.
