That might be a reason. Disney was going to do a movie about Kimba the lion from Japan and then changed it to Simba so they could avoid the royalties. This theory causes all of Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy's insane decisions to make sense. Also, George Lucas remaining 10 steps ahead of everyone else in Hollywood doesn't surprise me.
