There was once an underground sect of Freemasons known as...The Oculists. A secret cabal of ophthalmologists.
For it was they who wrote the Copiale cipher!
The code was necessary to avoid overt attention from the likes of Pope Clement XII, the first Pope to speak out against the Freemasons. And only in recent times the code was deciphered thanks to ....the Machine!!!! Well, computers figured it out. It's all weird ritual stuff involving candles and shit.
