The answer to this is yes. Coming from someone who doesn't have, and has no desire to ever have, children. What if you played for the Mets and it was Game 7 of the World Series vs. The Yankees? Your wife was due prior to game time. Would you still miss the game? Yes, although the scenario is amazingly unlikely. Today, they could simply induce her in between games so its not an issue. You could be there during labor, and be back at the stadium with plenty of time to spare. I remember a few years ago, Daniel Murphy missed Opening Day at Citi Field because his wife was giving birth. Everyone with a soul congratulated Daniel and didn't care that he missed the game. Boomer Esiason, on the other hand, acted like Opening Day was some sort of sacrosanct entity and Daniel Murphy's missing it was a massive slap in the face to the team, the fans and the City of New York. Boomer was rightly ridiculed for that stance.
