If there is one thing the current Internet has taught me, it's not to assume you can figure out somebody's political leanings (let alone obsessions) by his/her taste in movies, music, or books. It used to be that if you guessed wrong on someone's party, that someone would correct you reasonably, sometimes gently, sometimes jokingly, with a minimum of embarrassment or rancor. Nowadays, in sharp contrast, should you hazard (I use the verb advisedly) a guess on someone's political persuasion, and happen to guess wrong...look out! You will be lucky if your guess receives nothing worse than stony silence. More likely, you will get flamed to within an inch of your life: "How DARE you assume that I am a Godless libtard/heartless CON-servative/commie leftist/rightwing fascist", etc, etc, ad infinitum and ad nauseam. I probably don't need to say that I have not visited the Politics Board here on IMDb v. 2.0 for months, and have no intention of doing so anytime soon. Civil discussion--yes, and cheerful chitchat and friendly info interchange--is much more likely to be found in arenas like this one (and on most of the movie boards, as well as on the Trivia & Games boards), and I want to thank all of you--too many to mention right now--for making posting in the areas mentioned such an enjoyable and informative experience. My blood pressure thanks you too.
