I welcome it. Something as innocuous as a million cigarettes being smoked (looking at you "Alien") reminds me of the days when there were smoking sections in restaurants and one of my weekend chores was to clean out the ashtray in my dad's car. Not a smoker myself, but it reminds me of a certain time more than Sigourney's giant (very nice looking) hair.
I also like the mention of mullets. A good mullet always makes me laugh, but in a positive way. I am old enough to have had one (give me a break, I grew up playing hockey in the midwest USA), but never found a stylist who could give me a proper Mel Gibson.
And not to be crass, but the downstairs landscaping of times gone by was a bit different than today...and that's alright with me.
