Not Alien but in Aliens there are children on the colony that gets overrun with cenomorphs. In an extended scene you meet Newts family including her brother...and she tells you he died. Not explicitly shown but it's obvious what happened to him. And in Alien 3 they kill Newt, including an autopsy scene to see if she became a host. Alien 3 is a POS anyway imo so it doesn't matter. There is only one scene in the entire movie I think is well done, much of the rest is cringe-inducing and features the most boring generic cast of characters I could possibly imagine. Even Weaver looks bored and tired of playing the character. The cinematography is all over the place and when I found out that Jordan Cronenweth became ill during filming and they had to replace him, I wasn't surprised. Killing off Newt was a terrible idea in the first place as far as I'm concerned.
In Aliens it isn't onscreen and that is the difference. Also, some directors know how to handle the killing of children and some don't. Another big difference is that in this film it is done for shock value.
I would have been more forgiving with Requiem if that was my only problem with the movie. But I pretty much hated every aspect of the film. The cinematography, the editing, the characters, the story etc. The movie is just unpleasant in pretty much every way.
