WarrenPeaceYeah Marathon Man was convoluted at times, but I thought is was a fine cloak and dagger thriller. I'll answer these questions as best I can. What was the job of Doc? Doc said he was an executive of some kind, but that was just a front. He really worked for Szell, as a diamond courier. Why were there assassination attempts on Doc? I believe the reason was because Szell was coming out of hiding and he no longer trusted any of his couriers, and was having them eliminated, including Doc.I get it that Szell is a Nazi war criminal. But why were he and Doc meeting and why did he kill Doc at that meeting? Szell no longer trusted him.How is Elsa connected to Szell, if at all? I think she was also a courier for Szell, and was sent to spy on Babe to find out if he knew anything about Szell. How or why is Janeway connected to Szell or why is he helping him and his henchmen? Janeway was a corrupt CIA agent working for Szell. Why did Janeway kill the henchmen and Elsa in the country house? I believe Janeway was also a double agent, so he was probably trying to eliminate everybody to save his own skin in case something went drastically wrong.Where did all those diamonds come from? Szell stole them from Jewish prisoners in the concentration camps during WW2.Why is this a well known movie? Is it the dental torture scene that makes it infamous? I didn't find it all that disturbing. Yeah the dental torture scenes were controversial at the time, and it has the famous line "Is it safe?"Hope this helps.
