So I've totally been in TZ mood, but I've watched the original epsiodes soooo many times. Well, MeTV had the 80s revival on at midnight and I started recording them. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised how much I like this revival. It has a good mix of social commentary, sci-fi, horror, and just straight up bizarre episodes. This iteration is similar to the 80s movie in the sense that the narrator is never seen (but in this case, is doing a Rod Serling impression), and the hour long episodes consist of multiple stories. It works pretty well. In the last season, the show went into the traditional half hour/single story format. The final season has some great episodes as well. I think that's because I'm partial to the writing of J. Michael Straczynski, who wrote a good number of those episodes. Unfortunately, MeTV has taken it out of the rotation in favor of going back to the original series. But many episodes are up on Youtube, so I'm watching what I can and am considering shelling out some money for a boxed set. This series managed a few decent episodes, I agree. One of the creepiest, IMO, was 'Nightcrawlers', the story of a war vet's PTSD hallucinations becoming all together too real.
