Yeah. For the early part of DVD's lifecycle, LDs were still considered to be superior. And DVD's never had uncompressed audio like LD. That said, I can't hear the difference.

Unfortunately, I don't think any LDs are animorphic, so they're probably almost all pretty much unwatchable on today's 16:9 HD TVs....

They play decently but not perfect on our 37" Panny plasma that I've kept for so very long that I hook it up to. It's not as good as an old Trinitron for the purpose, but there was no way I was going to continue to lug those boat anchor CRT's around just for when I felt nostalgia, lol.
