I actually think Porky's is one of the best. It had original set pieces and was a precursor for other sex romps to follow, was full of raunchiness, consistently funny, the characters all had their own unique personalities and if it did have sweetness, it was in the camaraderie of the friendship these guys had with each other and they looked out for each other. There was also the racist attitude subplot that got well rounded out due to son living up to his bigoted father's conditioning and wanting to impress upon him. Porky's humor wasn't so much silly, but born out of situation. Nerds was silly and over the top for the sake of it, but yes, did have its heart in the right place.
It's been a long time since I've seen Porky's. I just remember it not being as funny or well directed and acted as Revenge of the Nerds. Perhaps you need to revisit sometime. Nancy Parsons, Kim Cattrall, Art Hindle and for me, it is a nostalgia buzz as well. The timing is just as good as Nerds. I really don't like Nerds II though, or even Porky's II for that matter, but I didn't mind Porky's Revenge.
