When I was in my early teens and a faithful member of an evangelical church, I was told that if I “witnessed” at school and was made fun of, I was being persecuted for my belief. Modern American evangelicals have a very low bar of persecution. Probably, the most delusional religionists on this board count being mocked or taken to school over their interpretations of the Bible to be equal to being put to death by lions in the Rome Colosseum. you actually have a high bar for what defines persecution. Not necessarily. Conservatives, both religious and political, don't like to be contradicted. They don't want other people's voices debunking and opposing them after they, themselves, speak out. They especially don't like the "biased media" reporting what conservatives actually say and do. Straight reporting often registers as bias to a winger. In the religious field, they often claim persecution if the law does not allow them to discriminate and to take away or diminish other's basic civil rights.
