I have read many times that he was the creative force behind "I Love Lucy". Lucy even said that on the occasion of his death if I remember correctly. She was saying that pretty freely even before his death. She said he did all the work, and all she had to do was show up and be crazy lucy. He invented the three camera set up, re runs, oversaw the script, produced ... his memory was so good he never needed more that one read of the script to have it down. Lucy was never one to denigrate her own contributions ,and she took credit for her success. But that makes it all the more meaningful that she credited Desi with so much of the creation of the series in those early years.
