The violence erupted from a traffic incident involving the victim, Daniel Wilcox, who did in fact vote for Trump. However, as Wilcox himself admitted, there was no way for anyone in the crowd to have known this, and he also admittted that the attack stemmed from the traffic incident and not politics. It's of some interest to note that Wilcox has been in prison nine times over the past 30 years, and was involved in a 1986 murder that he claimed was self-defense. He failed to fight back in this instance because he was afraid that if he did so he'd end up back in prison as a result.
The police issued a statement that the attack stemmed from an attempted carjacking and was not politically motivated in nature.
Funniest thing here is that the details of this story originated with Fox News outlet Channel 32 in Chicago.

The clash occurred between members of alt-right and neo-Nazi groups with alleged Antifa members. Some of the Trump supporters who were inside the Capitol building for the rally actually complained about the event being taken over by the alt-right demonstrators.
Although the people outside complained that 'Antifa members' were responsible for the attack, it seems pretty clear that they could just as easily have been manhandled by some of the violent white-supremacist demonstrators in the crowd.
Again, James--try to get your facts straight, willya? It's getting tiring having to point out your omissions and mis-statements over and over again.
