I liked it, to an extent. That said... Dangerous Liaisons works in large part because of the time and society it was set in. That society had an immensely strict code of behaviour, and once publicly transgressed there was basically no way back. To be revealed to have manipulated people, to have caused a scandal, etc... that would destroy your life in society, forever. The taboos were real, they were serious business, and everyone treated them as such. Today society is far more permissive. Almost everything Sarah Michelle Gellar's character did would hardly raise an eyebrow today. Seriously, having a bet with a dude about getting into some girl's pants? Even if she openly admitted it, who'd really care? Her worst trouble would come from the drug involvement, and as a white girl from a rich family she'd likely get a suspended sentence at worst - if she ever wound up in a court at all, that is. Then she'd become an anti-drug activist selling a "don't go down the dark road I did, give your life to jesus because he saved me and can do the same for you" message. Six months down the line she'd be more accepted and popular than ever. So yeah... the whole premise of the movie really doesn't work. But it's silly fun if you can ignore that. "But it's silly fun if you can ignore that." -----------------------------------------------
I can definitely do that.
If you don't mind me asking, What did you think of Sarah Michelle Gellar's Acting Performance in the Movie ?
