One of his nicest character roles -- as the helpful and sympathetic pawn shop owner in THE GLENN MILLER STORY who looks out for intinerant musicians ... and extends credit for his first 'String of Pearls' to the future orchestra leader (which will inspire his later hit song).
My favorite line of his is from STALAG 17:
"The barracks must be Schpic ... and also Schpan!"
