I guess everyone has a special personal preference
as to what kind of pet parent they wish to be
and so long as they care for them properly
that's what really matters
( IMPO - I think it's totally wonderful ! 
)

. Unfortunately I never had a pet rat or snake
but I did have a lot of dogs , mice , gerbils , hamsters ,
fish , and the family parakeet bird
over the years in my childhood ( & in my teen years too ) .
. Sadly my current living arrangements
doesn't allow pets
and my limited environment
wouldn't be comfortable
or fair to the critters either

if your living arrangements were different would you get another dog?
I most definitely would Jay 
if I lived in ideal environment
with plenty of space indoors and outdoors .
.Certain pets especially dogs need lots of space
to be happy and secure with
which I did have many years ago
with the many family pets we had .
