Let's dissect the clip and the moment shall we. The epic moment is when Frazier goes down. HC keeps it sweet and simple - 'Down goes Frazier!' Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!' It's Howie's simplicity in 'the moment' that makes that moment so iconic for the viewer. Are you fucking for real? Look, I know Philly people are stupid, but this is a new level of stupidity. Cossell said it THREE TIMES! That's what made the call so famous. Any other announcer - just watch any fight - would simply say "Down goes Frazier." You say you like simplicity, why do you like a guy repeating over and over and over the very same thing? Plus by the second and third time Cossell was saying "Down goes Frazier," Joe Frazier WAS ALREADY UP!!! The call was over the top, wrong, and all about Howard injecting himself into the event. Seriously, kid, you have some weird ideas about calls. That "Down goes Frazier" call is infamous because it once again made Cossell look like the blowhard he can't himself from being. What made the call famous was the shock value of the moment and those 3 simple words. 'Down Goes Frazier'. Could he have said it once? Perhaps; this is debateable. But my point is - 'Down goes Frazier' was short and sweet and to the point. Also - I'd like to add this was in Round 1 and the first of 6 times Frazier was down in the fight. It was a shocking moment - so the short and simple phrase 'Down Goes Frazier' stated only once would not have fit here. Now stating only once when the fight was stopped - 'George Foreman has beaten Joe Frazier' may have been a fitting ending. But Howie nailed this - short, sweet and to the point. 'Down Goes Frazier' stated only once would not have fit here being it was the 1st knockdown in the 1st Round and caught everyone off guard.
