You simply cannot start a rookie in a big game like this. The second they get into trouble, they unravel. Rick Ankiel, Salomon Torres (not a playoff game technically, but it might as well have been). That Ankiel thing was crazy. He had such a brilliant rookie year too. Was it the NLDS where he first developed the yips or was it the last game of the year? I remember he started a game in the NLCS against the Mets after that, he sailed two balls in the 1st inning and TLR got him right out of there. There's a whole chapter in LaRussa's Three Nights in August about Ankiel and his pitching woes. I think he said that it was the biggest mistake he made as a manager.
