Linda Woolverton Has Had Enough of the ‘Strong Female’ Trope

Agreed, though I'd put 'lazy' or 'inept' in front of the word filmmakers in your post.  There's a long history of strong female characters in film, but these days it's often become a formula at best; and at worst the story and surrounding characters are destroyed in an attempt to prop up the heroine.  (See Rey compared to Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi.)
