Didn't you like TLJ? Now I'm seeing posts like this and others saying it disappointing you and whatnot. Not that I'm complaining, the haters can have you.
I picked three choices:
1. Nobody, I Liked It. Which I did.
2. The Haters. After everyone basically agreed TFA was a play-it-safe soft reboot of ANH, this movie bent over backwards to appease the people who hated that by flipping every OT story beat on its head. In turn, they pissed off TFA fans, and Haters hated anyway. Again, I didn't mind the "subverted expectations" myself.
3. JJ Abrams. The #1 complaint with this movie is conscientious objector Luke Skywalker. After TFA, what options did Johnson have in explaining why Luke was living in isolation in Ireland instead of fighting the First Order? In the OT, Yoda was too old to fight and Obi-Wan was guarding Luke all while both were actively hunted by the government. With Luke, he's able bodied and the First Order isnt that powerful (up until they blow up the New Republic capitals, anyway), so what's he doing there? Bitter retiree Luke probably wouldn't have been my first choice in bringing back the character, but that's on Abrams and TFA putting Johnson in a position with only one answer that makes sense: the guy fucked up with his nephew and threw in the towel.
