I'm not talking European football but good old fashioned smash mouth NFL football. How many fans are on these boards and if so, who do you root for and why? I know there are some European fans as well and I'm interested on what they think of the game. For me, for some odd reason I became a St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals fan 45 seasons ago(I'm celebrating my 45th season as a fan). Been loyal all of these years with very little to show for it(1 Super Bowl appearance...could be worse, I could be a Lions fan). They are the oldest continuing franchise in the NFL having been established in 1895 as the Morgan Athletic Club so obviously they're a charter member of the NFL and the only team to retain their nick name all that time(the Bears who were founded in 1920 began as the Decatur Staleys). But I'm not just a Cardinal fan, I'm a football fan in general(sports fan in general). I love the history of it. It's the one true American sport next to basketball. But there's nothing like sitting on my favorite chair on a Sunday afternoon and watching a game. Doesn't matter who's playing(my boys are rarely on in these parts), I'll watch at least some of it and if there's 2 games on, I'll switch back and forth or just watch Red Zone.
Now, IMO, the game seemed better back in the 70's and 80's. The players then weren't much of prema dona's then an the sport was more blue collar. And as much as I like going to other sports(baseball, basketball, hockey), football seems to be an event. Maybe it's the once a week aspect and only being on Sunday and Monday nights(now it's Thursday night, Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, Monday night) but going to a football game is like a party. People get there early, several hours early, and set up tables, grills, get coolers out, set up TV's, etc. and it's party time. Nothing like tailgating on a crisp fall Sunday morning. Don't get that with the other sports. You basically get out of your car and head to the stadium or arena. Then after the football game, it's time to wind down, drink a couple of beers, and if you have a TV out, watch the later games until the traffic clears up. Anybody else like this game?
