I wasn't going to but I ended up answering the door to hand out candy after all when the doorbell rang. It is still light out so a turned off porch light doesn't matter yet.
The first kid who was there didn't have a costume so I told him no candy. I have never done this. But I feel like doing it now. My conscience is, of course, bugging me because I hate rejecting others but I have been rejected for various things through my life. And now here I am turning away kids. But I feel like the candy is mine until I pass it over and if they are not in the H.Ween spirit with a store bought or homemade costume, (Better yet) why should they earn what I am giving away? Just because they are children? Spare me that.
So what do you think? Should children get free treats just because they are children who don't put in any effort to the holiday? Do you agree or disagree with this rule I have of: No costume. No candy.
