I haven't ranked them based on improvement or deterioration. Those two teams are ranked by strength of opposition. And degree of victory. The 49ers have crushed teams. The Pats are barely beating bad teams. That is why the 49ers are ranked ahead of the Patriots. And what are the Saints ranked by? The degree to which you’re a homer? The Saints are a wholly unsuitable option for number one in any power rankings. You might even call them un-sue-table. No. The Saints have played the hardest schedule. And they have continued to win in spite of key injuries. They are also well balanced and deep. Great defense. Arguably the best defensive line. Great offense. Arguably the best offensive line. Great quarterback, great running backs, and arguably the best reciever in football. Good special teams. Arguably the best punter. Good coaches. (Maybe great coaches.)
