Over Friday Night (1), Saturday (1) & Sunday (3) I saw five films at a film festival. The Wretched & Color Out Of Space were the picks of the lot. The Wretched was a creative witch story with likeable leads & nasty shocks. Color Out Of Space is beautifully shot with some nice visuals along with body horror as a family slowly goes mad... and Nicholas Cage does unleash. VFW was obviously influenced by John Carpenter in its siege set-up with a great veteran cast headed by Stephen Lang. Bliss was anything but bliss with a trippy, and experimental head pounding ride that had me thinking of Abel Ferrara. While Blood Vessel was a generic, yet mildly amusing slow-burn ghost ship overtaken by the Nazi’s obsession with the occult... this time ancient vampires.
