Depends on which version. The theatrical release is around a 7/10. I finally found the extended tv version and I give that around a 6.5/10, the added scenes made it drag even MORE. Then there is the Director's Cut. This is the version I love! They edited it tighter. They finished some effects. They removed those scenes where Kirk seemed to be constantly annoyed at McCoy. And we finally got to see V'Ger. Easily the best Director's Cut of any film I have seen. Yes, it begs comparisons at times to 2001 and I think favorably. Unique looking film in the Trek universe. Gorgeous score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith. And it is the only Trek film with an epic big screen fe el! I recently picked up the Director's version and am hugely looking forward to seeiπg it. Haveπ't see it iπ so, so loπg, probably not siπce it came out on video.....and to be hoπest it was my least favourite Trek movie with the original characters. 6/1O
I recall thiπkiπg it was too mistily acted and oddly too grandiously and over-reverentiallly directed by the chap who directed The Souπd of Music.....all respect to Mr Wise. The subsequent Nicholas Meyer films were hugelely satisfying for me.
But now light years later......the urge to watch it again with older eyes is massive. I loved the recent re-boot movies with Chris Pine which were fab after the ( to me ) weaker subsequent TV series (Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Discovery and Enterprise).
TNG tv had some nice momeπts but the TNG movies (apart from Generations) were not super. I guess I have a hankeriπg for the characters I loved as a kid.
Anyhow's.....agaiπ i'm tremendously looking forward to seeing Motioπ Picture agaiπ after all this time.
