The kissing "rules" and "double bed" rules came in the days of THE CODE* and were not previously in force.... thus their instigation (for good or evil)to "protect" the sensibilities of the viewing public.

They still didn't show nudity, sex or allow swearing in pre-code days as far as I have seen.
