From a technical standpoint, shots were typically much longer and many of the films had more dialogue (outside of maybe compared to a Tarantino film). Yes absolutely. I tested this once. Newer movies cut away form a shot in about 2 seconds and also tend to have big closeups more often. Spielberg said movies were using more tv type filming conventions (over the shoulder shots).
