That could be why Rogers was such a selfish asshole who was willing to put his fellow soldiers at risk on the battlefield. Because Rogers probably felt that he got dealt a bad hand, with his severe health problems. So Rogers didn't give a shit that his fellow soldiers would have to risk their lives to fight his battles on the battlefield.

Probably felt? You're inventing motivations and scenarios for these characters that simply aren't present in the films to fit your narrative. His only motivation was to serve. That's what we're given in the film. Anything other than that comes from your imagination.

Furthermore, I'm not sure how he would be a liability or a burden to the other soldiers. He would be properly vetted during the training process and likely not even put in the battlefield. Even if he was, with his limited ability, he wouldn't last long. It's likely he would take a bullet pretty quickly, taking him out of action early. No fuss, no muss. The only one that would risk anything to protect him would be Bucky due to their close relationship and that's only if they were to serve together. He was dismissed and belittled by the other soldiers during the training process in the film, so it's likely they wouldn't lift a finger to help him during combat. Hell, they might just use him as a human shield.
