When the Sartain twist happened I nearly got up and walked out. I was thinking it was going to be another Thorn scenario. That was, by far, the worst thing that happened in the movie. The story I'd heard was that an earlier version that didn't test well showed Laurie drinking and watching Michael being moved to the bus and making some sort of move to attack him or something that lead to his escape. They did away with that because test audiences didn't like Laurie being the cause of Michael's escape, so they had to come up with some other reason that he could have escaped, so they decided on making the 'new Loomis' actually a villain. It was a terrible idea, and Laurie being responsible for Michael's escape actually is a good and evocative idea that would have been an interesting direction to take things. I agree. I think having Laurie be responsible is much better than having his Dr be the cause of the escape.
