Haven't seen it in a while, but never had any affection for the remake. Sure, Geoffery Rush does a good job embodying the Vincent Pricey essence of it all, but no other characters did anything for me at all. As much as I liked some of those actors in other things, there's not one other performance in this thing that I worked.
As much there's a level of style and everything to them, that rash of 'Dark Castle' horror movies were more obnoxious than they were entertaining. And some of those were 'updated' remake, like this one, that just tried to be slick and 'modern' versions of the same old thing. I get it, but they reeeeaaallly don't age well. They feel very much of the music video era that they are from. They have their moments but they look and feel of them is such a lame early 2000s cliche. For instance, I fucking despised Thirteen Ghosts because it was so aggressively shitty in that style. I think Ghost Ship might be the best of them, and that's certainly damning with the absolute faintest of praise.
