What's wrong with it being a theme park movie? Nobody ever claimed them to be any kind of cinematic masterpiece.
They're just the modern day version of the old mindless action movies of the 80's and 90's like Rambo, Commando, the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon sequels, Passenger 57, Speed etc.
Just fun popcorn movies that did well. Nothing serious or worth getting worked up over. A crappy movie like Rambo 2 made over $300 million back in 1985 in the same way.
