Hollywood films of all time" come up, but it has everything that many great dramas have--fine performances from even the most incidental characters; memorable dialogue; a perfect balance of comedy and unforced melodrama; and a serious message that is delivered without mawkish preachiness. I know I'll be in the minority here, but I enjoy watching the "colorized" version; it gives the movie the same nostalgic feel as old tinted photos of the 1940s-'50s.
Avoid the 1994 remake. It was so painfully tacky and witless that I had to turn it off after a half-hour or so.
