No one ever has anything interesting to say. Ever.

I like to elevate small talk to "medium talk". For the last few years I've been making an effort to be as genuine as possible with people. There's a fine line between necessary politeness and complete superficiality. I think a lot of social interactions devolve into the latter more often than not, leading to hollow relationships. This is something I actively work to avoid, both in active relationships and new ones.
