For me, he’d definitely be one of my top choices. I think he’d do a good job with the character. He'd be a solid choice but not quite my first one;I'd actually prefer if he did Green Lantern or New Gods. My preferred picks would be someone like the Russo brothers or Brad Bird or Justin Lin or Matthew Vaughn though. Now you mention it, you're probably right that Abrams is a better fit for a Green Lantern film than a Superman film.
