He'd be a solid choice but not quite my first one;I'd actually prefer if he did Green Lantern or New Gods. My preferred picks would be someone like the Russo brothers or Brad Bird or Justin Lin or Matthew Vaughn though. Now you mention it, you're probably right that Abrams is a better fit for a Green Lantern film than a Superman film. I'm just curious what Christopher McQuarrie proposed to WB. Apparently he had an idea for a crossover between Superman and Green Lantern.
