Can't you just disable the internet connection so the game does not even see that it has a update?
because if you can't just play from the game disc straight up, I would say the hell with that BS real quick. sure, it's nice that games get patched and all through updates, but nowadays unless you got a really fast internet line it can take several hours to download updates especially given game sizes are getting to be really large in size vs not all that long ago.
