I listened to Imus quite a bit in the late 80's and early 90's when he was on WFAN in New York. His show was hilarious. He had just gotten out of rehab and he was so hilariously grumpy in those days. His grumpiness seemed to be more of an act as the years went on, but in those years it seemed more legitimate.
He was always 2nd fiddle to Howard Stern in New York radio, and they had a very long feud with each other. No doubt, Imus stole some of his routine from Stern, but Imus was still very funny in his own right.
And before he got into trouble with his comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, his morning show on MSNBC featured MANY Washington DC bigwigs, who distanced themselves from Imus after he got into trouble.
