HONEY PART 1 3/10 HONEY PART 2 3/10 HONEY PART 3 1/10 In HONEY PART 4: RISE UP AND DANCE, the stage of the dance competition is a different physical space than the dance studio where the main characters rehearse and the clubs they hang out at. Therefore, the climax is visually underwhelming. Another reason is that the bar was high at that point. Throughout the rest of the movie, the camera moves enough to make the dances more energetic but not enough to prevent the viewer from telling what's going on. The editing ruins the flow of these sequences only once or twice. None of these were technical achievements by 2018 standards but, when you look at the camera quality, lighting and color palette, you can tell how low the budget was. I was impressed that they managed to create something so professional-looking with so little and at how director Bille Woodruff didn't fall into the trap of incorporating the bad aspects of modern music videos into a movie about dancing and/or music (even though he actually began his career in that medium). There are even a few moments with well-framed and well-colored wide shots. I was ready to call this the best installment of the franchise. Unfortunately, Teyana Taylor's performance is very bad and her character SKYLER does some bad things, yet the movie makes it look like she's the one who's right. MAYA (one of her dance partners) does less wrong things, but she still doesn't deserve an apology. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
