Read the original articles He responded to Marvel in particular because he was asked about Marvel in particular (read the Empire article, not the reports on it). But his problem seems to be with all super hero franchise cinema - he clarifies that in follow up interviews. His 1000+ favourite films do not list any "blockbuster" or franchise films after 1982, except one...Raimi's Spider-Man. No Marvel, no DC, no Lord Of The Rings, no Dark Knight(in fact no Nolan films), no Star Wars (and before 82 ONLY Star Wars) etc. He never called Marvel films "disgusting". He later clarified his original statement He also said some Hitchcock films can be seen as "theme park rides" ok, looked it up, Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather, Apoc Now) said the MCU films are disgusting, no sorry, "despicable", defending Scorsese. Makes it actually worse does it not? www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/marvel-movies-francis-ford-coppola-disney-martin-scorsese-a9163816.htmlI wouldn't go that far, cinematic junk food will do. But then I find junk food disgusting, thus the circle is complete. Makes what worse? Scorsese says they (and other franchise films) are not for him. He's a director I admire, and understand what he is saying (or rather what he says in the original articles not the re-posted, re-edited ones)...it's his opinion, he's entitled to it. Coppola I admire less so....he's still entitled to his opinion. Spielberg, who I admire as much as Scorsese , loves (his words) Donner's Superman, The Dark Knight the first Iron Man and above all of them,Guardians of the Galaxy. Great choices...but still just his opinion. It doesn't make the reasons anyone likes or dislikes these films more or less valid. And what it certainly doesn't do, which one or two on this board seem to think, dictate what is or isn't "art" or "cinema", or makes their opinion as important as the likes of Scorsese or Coppola because they share a dislike of some films, rather than have an appreciation the same films.
