I also was spanked on the ass, and if I had to call that abuse of any kind, I would call it sexual abuse rather than physical. As an adult I realize now that my parents didn’t intend anything sexual, and wrongly assumed I was afraid of the physical pain, but from my perspective as a kid, let’s just say I was confused and embarrassed in a way I wouldn’t wish on anybody.
